The Pebbles of Stones a Motivational Story
Here is another story from the motivational speaker in Lucknow. A
known Leadership consultant and CEO coach in the city.
In a small town in India, there
lived a money lender. A merchant named Akhil had a large sum of debt on his
shoulder of the money lender. The moneylender was old and very much
unattractive in appearance. Akhil tried to save every penny from his business to
give away the loan of the money lender but he couldn’t. The interest of the
money was kept on increasing every year. After trying so hard, He finally
decided to face the ugliest truth with the ugliest man on earth. He faced the
money lender with the shame in his eyes. He knew money lender would not allow
him to leave and could offer his slavery. He had decided to be a slave if no
options were to offer.
The moneylender seemed to be calm
and collective in voice. He did not shout on the merchant which was unexpected
from the merchant’s side. Instead of shouting, he offered him a choice. A
choice of clearing all his debt was to marry his daughter. The man was shocked but there was no other
option to get away his debt. He managed to say yes somehow, recalling that his
daughter was not going to be pretty. But there was no way around o escape he
agreed to terms dictated by the money lender. The money lender said I would
provide two bags with the pebbles of white and black stones occupying different
bags. He said my daughter would pick one of them. If black stone would appear,
your debt would be wiped out but if the white stone would appear, again, you
would have to marry my daughter and your debt would be wiped out. He agreed as
there was still a chance that he could manage to escape without marrying and no
debt to be paid. The moneylender was no fool as he had his tricks under his
clever mind. He picked up the two black stones and placed them in two different
bags clearing all the chances to escape for the merchant. His daughter saw that
from the window. She knew that she had to make choice from these:
First, she could take out both the
stones and expose his father in front of the merchant. Second, she could pick
the stone and marry to the merchant. Next day, merchant arrived to face his
destiny in the hand of the money lender’s daughter. The first time he saw the
money lender’s daughter. She was far more beautiful than he imagined. He was
now satisfied with the deal. He knew he is not going to have a loss in any of
the circumstances. The daughter picked up the stone and accidentally dropped it
on the bundle of pebbles. “Oh! How silly of me, but no problem, I will take out
the second stone from the bag with which we manage to make sure the stone I
picked.” She took out the other stone which was obviously black. She said, “I
am sure that I picked white”. The merchant was happy to leave with no debt on
his back.
